Algozen Comments:

Long before becoming a ZUKEN CADSTAR Value added reseller, Algozen has used B2Spice extensively and rigorously in its consultation and design activity. Algozen has also used  all other major top-line competing simulation tools for many years in its consulting service and Algozen believes by-comparison that the B2Spice tool is one of the very best simulation tools you can buy for the money. It does most of everything that one would typically require in a small-to-mid size electronics design company and in many cases does so in a significantly more user-friendly environment compared to other tools.

If your company is looking to provide affordable and sustainable simulation support at a reasonable cost, this tool is a great way to get an engineering design team up and running quickly. It integrates with CADSTAR in a way that is most effective.

Algozen applauds ZUKEN's  choice of B2Spice as a simulation tool provider.

Now ZUKEN CADSTAR and B2Spice can be obtained from Algozen Corporation. Please see the CADSTAR Promotional Bundles and contact Algozen US or Algozen Canada with any questions.

Design Migration

Migrating designs and libraries into CADSTAR from incumbent EDA tools is easy with the CADSTAR Design Migration tool - allowing you to transition without having a negative impact on existing design schedules, schematics and libraries.

Schematic Design

In Algozen's opinion, CADSTAR schematic capture is one of the best schematic capture tools in the market. The power and capability integrated in this tool defies explanation in a few lines. More information is available from Zuken describing  the CADSTAR Schematic Design tool. Our saying over the years is that CADSTAR is the best kept secret in North America. Algozen hopes to change that.

In Algozen's engineering process consultancy we have found ways to use the CADSTAR schematic tool that give engineers truly amazing power over how they manage every aspect of their designs. Some of these tips do not generally jump out at you until long after the tool is purchased and used. But they are there.

Since many of the capabilities we are talking about are not available in other competing schematic tools we will show you ourselves how the tool can be used to save time and money, not just on the CAE/CAD electronics design process itself, but on the actual in-house processes and Product Design procedures that modern companies need to provide in order to succeed.

For videos Algozen has compiled regarding these more subtle process capabilities that are possible that we  want you to know about  follow our link to:

Library Editor

Companies today want to exploit the capability that re-use brings to them in the CAD/CAE environment, and the Library Editor is the key to allowing this to be done effectively.

CADSTAR’s extensive on-line libraries have more than 230,000 ready-made parts and are updated and expanded constantly. The ready to download and use parts contain all the information a designer requires, including manufacturers' part numbers.

However, every companies unique needs will require customization, and library management capabilities. CADSTAR Library Editor provides this capability.

Library Datasheet Publisher

At the heart of every company is the need for parts used in manufacturing to be documented and handled by:

  • Engineers, technicians and technologists
  • Purchasing personnel
  • Incoming Quality Control personnel
  • Manufacturing personnel
  • etc. etc. etc.

Older CAD/CAE tools simply provide the ability to create and link parts, component footprints and schematic symbols.........but simply generating a parts entry in a CAD/CAE library is only one small part of the actual design-for-manufacture goal that every company needs to achieve to be truly cost effective, efficient and successful as an enterprise.

The Library Datasheet Publisher is the key tool required  towards achieving a controlled and organized dissemination of in-house parts approved for design and manufacture.

CADSTAR generates customized datasheets in HTML for every part in the library and these can be viewed and shared locally or on-line.

    • Parts datasheet information viewed and shared locally across an intranet or Internet
    • Vital information for the purchasing department is available on parts datasheet

Variant Manager

The need often arises in many companies where they have a product that has several variations. A good example would be say, a power supply that has an essentially common architecture, but has key differences and key characteristics that vary by product, or by country, so called variants.

For example:

New Power Supply Model :

  • Variation 1: Input Voltage: 120V, 240V, 575V

  • Variation 2: Output Voltage: 12V, 24V, 100V

  • Variation 3: Layout variation required due to safety agency differences i.e CSA, or UL, or VDE

The variant manager provides the capability for you to organize and bundle different variants into the same schematic and PCB design database. When a selected variant is selected, certain parts may be suppressed in the bill of materials, or become different part numbers altogether, for example a 100 ohm resistor in one variant case, and in another variant becomes a 120 ohm resistor.

This design capability significantly reduces the complexity of managing multiple product variants and in many cases assists in helping engineers to think hierarchically from the outset of beginning the design.

Network or Node Locked License

Both network and Node locked licenses are available. Standard configuration is with a Node-Locked license. Contact Algozen if you require a network license.

Rules-by-Area

Many CAD/CAE printed circuit board design tools provide design rules to manage the design. However not all tools provide the ability to change the rules for different areas of the board.

Rules-by-Area in CADSTAR allow different areas of the PCB to be setup to enforce different sets of rules. This function is absolutely necessary in designs that process multiple technologies and different clearance rules, and manufacturing rules etc. because modern printed circuit board designs may employ large and small, low voltage and high voltage components all on the same physical board.

 SI Verify

Analysis & Verification Solutions offered by CADSTAR (electrical verification)

SI Verify is ideal for designs where components are placed or placed and routed. If and when the nets are not routed, estimates on interconnect length and impedance are automatically considered during simulation.

CADSTAR’s SI Verify uses a comprehensive and easy to use simulation library with a large range of models and standard components; IBIS models can be utilized and SPICE models for passive circuits can be loaded either.

The graphical Scenario Editor provides a 'what-if' scratchpad, to do topology studies and to experiment with different design strategies. In addition, powerful parameter sweep features help to explore design limits and to optimize termination networks. Si-Verify can be used interactively in a scope mode for selected nets as well as in batch-mode for an entire PCB sign-off simulation.

  • It offers a seamlessly integrated complete signal integrity simulation toolset.
  • It uses Constraint Manager as design navigation cockpit to launch a simulation for selected areas of the board,
  • Evaluate the electrical performance, analyze reflection and crosstalk effects and calculate the relevant interconnect timing information, perform what-ifs with regard to changes of the layer stack, different track widths, track-to-track spacing.
  • Define complex stimulus information driving the simulation including digital, analog and pseudo random patterns. It is possible to view the results in time and frequency domain, results can easily be stored, archived or documented in Microsoft Office applications.
  • For dense HDI boards an highly accurate via geometry extraction and analysis allows to consider the parasitic impact of vias and microvias; serial data links and differential pairs suffering jitter and ISI effects can be analyzed by doing Eye-Diagram simulations
